Learning through touch.
Functional Integration
In Functional Integration (FI), the teacher guides an individual student in movement lessons using gentle, non-invasive touch as the primary means of communication. It is individualized one on one practice that can have a profound effect on the ability of our clients to access functional movements that improve the quality of life. It begins with the insight that movement is fundamental to how we live our lives—how we accomplish our goals, how we express our thoughts and feelings, how we relate to others, and more. Suggesting to our clients through touch creates possibility for tremendous improvement in every aspect of those we work with.
Lessons are custom tailored to each unique students in their own desires, needs, and interests. Communicating through touch occurs without invasion or force to establish a rapport and sense of safety in clients so practitioners may feel what clients’ habitual ways of moving is like, and invite non habitual alternatives to emerge.
